Jirisan Peace Festival

The peace festival was launched in November 1969 in a bid to promote friendships among the county’s people, to overcome local historical tragedies, and to pray for the unification of Korea.
The festival is intended to console the souls of victims of the 1948 Battle of Jirisan, which involved the Korean Army and the rebel troops of Yeosu and Suncheon.
During the festival period, dwellers can keep clean and disciplined by taking a bath and praying for peace.
The county’s athletics competition is also held. The festival is held in the autumn.
