The new encounter between human and ocean.
The Yellow Sea Fishweir Festival is held in Cheongpo Beach, Byeljubu Village, Woncheong-ri, Nam-myeon, Taean-gun, which is the background of a Korean fairy tale called Byeljubujeon. In the story, a snapping turtle was ordered by the Sea God to obtain a rabbit’s liver and landed on Yeongsaegol, the old name for the fishing village where fishermen always had a good catch. There still are 15 traditional weirs in the region.
At the Yellow Sea Fishweir Festival, visitors are welcome to experience the traditional weirs as well as the Weir Culture Center currently under construction that will display eight different types of traditional weirs. The festival will be an event where people can rediscover the value of Taean Peninsula combined with modern style and traditional weirs.
