Silla Cultural Festival

This folk culture festival is held once a year in the middle of October in Gyeongju, Gyeongsangnam-do with the aim to recreate the culture of Silla Kingdom that lasted nearly 1,000 years and help people develop a sense of spirituality as the ancestors once did, while also promoting artistic wisdom and courage based on nationalism that are unique to Koreans so as to establish a basis for creating a new culture in this new age.
Buddhist philosophy and stories of Hwarang and Wonhwa are reproduced in the festival.
Festival events include seoje, exhibition of illustrated poems, historical play, music contest, native writers event, mask parade, performance by Emille Chorus, folk play, traditional Korean wrestling competition, archery competition, and Hangeul composition contest.
